Batman: The Long Halloween and Justice Society: World War II animated movies coming in 2021

August 24, 2020 by Ricky Church

Over the weekend DC fans had a complete flood of news with DC FanDome releasing trailers for Wonder Woman 1984, Gotham Knights, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and The Batman among a ton of other news, but one piece of news is sure to make plenty of Batman and DC fans happy. Warner Bros. Animation has announced their 2021 line up of animated films which include the previously announced Batman: Soul of the Dragon, Justice Society: World War II and a two-part adaptation of the fan-favourite Batman: The Long Halloween.

The Justice Society are the first and oldest superhero team to have formed within the DC Universe during the second World War. The typical line up for the Justice Society has been the original Green Lantern and The Flash alongside Doctor Fate, Hawkman and Hawkgirl, The Sandman, Wildcat, Hourman and Starman. Justice Society: World War II will be released after Batman: Soul of the Dragon. It was also revealed during DC Fandome that the team will appear in live-action as they go up against Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam.

After those releases, summer 2021 will see Batman: The Long Halloween. The story from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale has been a fan-favourite for decades and has been one many fans have clamoured to see adapted over the years. It has even gone on to inspire Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and possibly even Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman starring Robert Pattinson.

Batman: The Long Halloween follows the Dark Knight in the early years of his crime fighting career as a murderer is targeting members of Gotham City’s mafia on ever holiday of the year. Known as Holiday, Batman works with Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent to uncover the killer’s identity while battling the rise of costumed villains like The Joker, Scarecrow, The Riddler, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. The first part of The Long Halloween will be released on summer 2021 with the second part following in the fall.
