Batman v Superman backs down from Captain America 3, Warner Bros. sets dates for DC Cinematic Universe through to 2020

August 6, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Well, when it comes to the big stand-off between Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America 3, it is Warner Bros. who has blinked first, with the studio announcing that the DC team-up has moved release dates and will now arrive in cinemas in 3D on March 25th 2016. And that’s not all, as the studio seems to have finally pulled the trigger on a DC Cinematic Universe, setting a nine release dates through to 2020…

Untitled DC Film – August 5th 2016

Untitled DC Film – June 23rd 2017

Untitled DC Film – November 17th 2017

Untitled DC Film – March 23rd 2018

Untitled DC Film – July 27th 2018

Untitled WB Event Film – November 16th 2018

Untitled DC Film – April 5th 2019

Untitled DC Film – June 14th 2019

Untitled DC Film – April 3rd 2020

Untitled DC Film – June 19th 2020

Untitled WB Event Film – November 20th 2020

Now, it should probably be noted that the two “Untitled WB Event Films” could be something else entirely (such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), especially as they’re not “Untitled DC Event Films”, which would have presumably meant Justice League and Justice League 2. So omitting those, we can assume that the big DC ensemble will occupy at least one of the other nine spots, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt and David S. Goyer’s Sandman will likely fill another. Man of Steel 2, Wonder Woman and a solo Batman movie are all strong possibilities, along with the rumoured Dwayne Johnson Shazam film and there’s also been talk that Aquaman could lead his own feature as well as a Flash / Green Lantern team-up.

Hopefully we won’t have too long to wait before we get some indication of the upcoming titles, but in the meantime, what movies would you like to see as part of Warner’s DC line-up? Let us know your thoughts…

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for release on March 25th 2016, with Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
