Ben Affleck is “contemplating” signing on for The Batman, but looking to “segue out” of the role

November 13, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Ever since the release of – and mixed reception to – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there’s been intense speculation about Ben Affleck’s purported unhappiness with the DCEU, and his future as The Dark Knight.

This increased tenfold when he decided to vacate the director’s chair on The Batman, leading to rumours and reports that Affleck had already decided to exit the role and Matt Reeves would be recasting for his potential Dark Knight trilogy.

At the San Diego Comic-Con back in July, Affleck dismissed the speculation over his future, yet the rumours refuse to die, and just this past week he played coy when asked whether he could see himself reaching five appearances as the Caped Crusader (with this week’s release of Justice League, he’ll be up to three).

Well, in a new interview with USA Today, Affleck has seemingly confirmed that he is yet to sign on the dotted line for The Batman, although it is “something I’m contemplating”. The actor also went on to state that, “You don’t do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it.”

Affleck has said recently that he found Justice League a much more enjoyable experience that Batman v Superman, so let’s hope we do get at least one more appearance out of him, even if it’s just to hand the cape and cowl over to Bruce Wayne’s successor.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf, and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) and Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
