Ben Affleck leaving Batman, Aquaman footage, huge Captain Marvel news and more – Weekend News Roundup

July 24, 2017 by Luke Owen

AFFLECK BATMAN WOES?

Over the San Diego Comic Con weekend, there were reports that Warner Bros. were reconsidering the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman in their DC Extended Universe, possibly before his solo movie The Batman. However during DC’s panel in Hall H, Affleck reassured fans that he was sticking with the cowl in Justice League and beyond. “Let me be very clear. I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest fucking part in any universe, DC, Marvel. It’s incredible and I am so thrilled to do it. I know there’s a misconception that because I didn’t direct it maybe I wasn’t enthusiastic about it… it’s fucking amazing… And Matt Reeves doing it, I would be a fucking ape on the ground for Matt Reeves, never mind being Batman. It’s incredible. So I’m really blown away and excited, and it’s a great time in the DC universe, you’re going to see some stuff from Justice League that we’re really proud of and I think you’ll see why I’m excited to be Batman.” Read more here.

DC SLATE

The big news from DC’s Hall H panel was their announcement of their upcoming slate of movies, which will include Shazam, Suicide Squad 2, The Batman, Justice League Dark, Flashpoint (the new title for The Flash movie), Wonder Woman 2, Green Lantern Corps, and Batgirl. Interestingly, no Cyborg? Read more here.

AQUAMAN

Among the outpour of footage from San Diego Comic Con was from James Wan’s Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. While it sadly wasn’t released online, you can read a detailed description here.

WONDER WOMAN 2

With its amazing performance at the box office, it will come as no surprise that DC officially announced Wonder Woman 2 with Geoff Johns writing the script. Although a deal has not been inked yet, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is expected to return for the sequel as well. Read more here.

CAPTAIN MARVEL AND THE 90S ADVENTURE

A big surprise from Marvel’s Hall H panel was from the Captain Marvel discussion, which revealed the movie would take place in the 1990s with Samuel L. Jackson’s two-eyed Nick Fury – and a battle with The Skrulls. Whats interesting about this is that The Skrulls were – or possibly still are – owned by 20th Century Fox. What does this mean for a relationship between Marvel and Fox? Read more here.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP CASTING

Two former DC stars are heading over to the MCU, with Marvel announcing Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne have joined Ant-Man and The Wasp. Pfeiffer set to play Janet Van Dyne and Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster, a.k.a. Goliath. Furthermore, Hannah John-Kamen’s role has been revealed, and she’s playing the villain The Ghost, while Walton Goggins is portraying Sonny Burch. Read more here.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEKEND

Neil Calloway, like many others, is not a fan of Comic Con, and you can read his thoughts in Putting The “Con” In Comic-Con. Read the article here.
