Bob Iger jokes he needs Wikipedia to see everything that Disney owns

May 15, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Disney CEO Bob Iger has joked that he needed to look on Wikipedia to see everything that the studio now owns.

It’s fair to say that Disney is a very successful company and they are certainly dominating the movie business as a studio, thanks to the large number of high profile properties they own like Star Wars and Marvel.

Their portfolio, of course, has gotten even bigger since they purchased 20th Century Fox and Bob Iger has now joked that he had to rely on Wikipedia to see everything that Disney owned in the build-up to the purchase. Speaking at the annual MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit (via ComicBook.com), Iger said:

“In January of 2019, I came back from the holiday vacation having announced that we were buying Fox and realized I better figure out how we’re going to manage this. I rolled a whiteboard into my conference room outside of my office and stood in front of it.”

“First what I did was list all of the assets of the company, combined entities, and everything I could think of…I had to go to Wikipedia to find out everything we owned [laughs]. It’s a long list. I have a good memory but it’s not that good.”

At this point it seems like Disney owns most of the film industry, having to compete with themselves at the box office. It will be interesting to see if they look to add even more properties to their portfolio.
