Bryan Cranston says that there may be a road back for Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein

November 15, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Actor Bryan Cranston has said that he thinks there may be a road back to redemption for the disgraced duo of Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein.

Each day there seems to be a new Hollywood sexual assault/harassment scandal breaking but two of the highest profile figures to be involved are certainly Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein has been accused of multiple accounts of sexual assault and rape by various women, and Spacey has been accused of molesting young boys and sexually harassing other men on the set of his films/shows.

It would seem that things will be rather difficult for the two to find their way back to Hollywood’s good graces, if possible at all, but Bryan Cranston has a slightly different take.

Speaking rather sombrely to the BBC, the Breaking Bad actor said that there could be a path back for the two:

“It would take time, it would take a society to forgive them and it would take tremendous contrition on their part. And a knowingness that they have a deeply rooted psychological and emotional problem and it takes years to mend that.”

“If they were to show us that they put the work in and are truly sorry and making amends and are not defending their actions but asking for forgiveness, then maybe down the road there is room for that, maybe so,” he added. “Then it would be up to us to determine, case by case, whether this person deserves a second chance.”

Cranston also added that society shouldn’t ostracise individuals forever but should “leave it open for the few that can make it through that gauntlet of trouble and who have reclaimed their life and their dignity and respect for others.”

He also said that it was encouraging to see that what seems to be a systemic issue in Hollywood of sexual abuse is at last coming to light.

“It involves actors and actresses and people who are well-known, that’s why it’s getting that attention. Sexual predator behavior is not a Hollywood problem. It is a societal problem. We’re seeing that everywhere and that’s what’s so great about it, that it’s being exposed.”

Cranston has previously stated regarding Spacey that he may be a “phenomenal actor…he’s not a very good person. His career now I think is over.”
