Channing Tatum looking to find the perfect way to remake 1990’s Ghost

January 18, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Channing Tatum feels the people need a fresh, new take on 1990’s Ghost, and he’s looking to give us that. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Tatum said he has the rights to the classic romance, which he’ll team with Paramount Pictures to remake.

As he spoke with Vanity Fair while making pottery, the actor-producer told the outlet that his production company Free Association has “the rights to Ghost” and said it was now obvious why the original film included the iconic pottery scene. “Now I know why they put [pottery-making] in Ghost,” he joked. “This whole process is very, very sexual.”

Giving a small glimpse into the creative process, Tatum told Vanity Fair he’d play Patrick Swayze’s role in his adaptation. He doesn’t hold back on needing to make changes, though, “But we’re going to do something different…I think it needs to change a little bit and have our….” The actor was cut off and unable to finish answering his question as he was distracted by his pottery making. He wouldn’t return to the subject, leaving fans just a taste of his plans.

Ghost was released in 1990 and starred Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. The film follows a banker, Sam Wheat, who is murdered and continues to look out for his artist girlfriend, Molly. The film co-starred Whoopi Goldberg and Tony Goldwyn, and Goldberg won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film grossed over $505MM worldwide, becoming the third-highest-grossing film in history at the time of release.

Channing Tatum will next star in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, opening on February 10th. Watch the trailer here.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day comes the third installment of the blockbuster “Magic Mike” film franchise, the musical comedy “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” The creative team behind the first film, which garnered praise from critics and audiences alike, has reunited to create the magic again: Channing Tatum reprises his role as Mike Lane and Steven Soderbergh returns to the helm with a script from Reid Carolin, who also wrote the first two films. And starring alongside Tatum is Salma Hayek Pinault (“House of Gucci,” “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”).

“Magic” Mike Lane (Tatum) takes to the stage again after a lengthy hiatus, following a business deal that went bust, leaving him broke and taking bartender gigs in Florida. For what he hopes will be one last hurrah, Mike heads to London with a wealthy socialite (Hayek Pinault) who lures him with an offer he can’t refuse…and an agenda all her own. With everything on the line, once Mike discovers what she truly has in mind, will he—and the roster of hot new dancers he’ll have to whip into shape—be able to pull it off?
