Character details revealed for Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in Jungle Cruise

March 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After scoring a huge box office success with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, actor Dwayne Johnson is currently gearing up for another jungle-based adventure as he stars alongside Emily Blunt in Disney’s Jungle Cruise.

Aside from the fact its based upon the theme park ride of the same name (with Disney hoping to repeat the success of Pirates of the Caribbean), we know very little about the studio’s plans for the movie. However, thanks to The Hashtag Show, we do now have brief character descriptions for Johnson and Blunt’s characters:

Frank (Francisco)
A witty riverboat captain cursed with immortality who takes Lily Houghton down the river.

Lily Houghton
Spunky scientist in search of the Tree of Life. Her quest is inspired in part by the death of her brother which was caused by an infectious disease.

Johnson’s character being immortal certainly opens up the possible for many future instalments, assuming the Jaime Collet-Serra-helmed adventure enjoys the same sort of box office business that Johnson is quickly becoming accustomed to.

Meanwhile, The Rock has taken to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes photo from a Jungle Cruise production meeting at Disney:

Jungle Cruise is currently without a release date, but with a Jumanji sequel and the Fast & Furious spinoff on the horizon for Johnson, 2020 is probably looking a good bet at this point in time.
