Christopher Eccleston returns for more Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor Adventures in May

April 25, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Fans of Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor will be happy to hear that the new audio adventure Doctor Who – The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Star-Crossed will be released in May 2024 from Big Finish Productions.  This new collection sees the Doctor joined by River Song as he faces dangerous and mysterious adventures.

In The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Star-Crossed, Christopher Eccleston reprises his role as the Doctor and Alex Kingston as River Song, they are joined by the talents of Paul Reynolds, Nadia Albina, Trevor Cooper, Francesca Mills and Tom Neenan.

The new adventures in this collection are:

Swipe Right by John Dorney

Rumours of the mysterious disappearances on the planet Crell have spread and there seems to be some connection to the special dating app created by the enigmatic Matchmaker.  This is the type of thing that the Doctor wants to investigate but it’s also the type of mystery that River Song is attracted to and they’re both on a collision course.

                                          Paul Reynolds and Christopher Eccleston

Face of the Apocalypse by Lizzie Hopley

When the TARDIS lands in a hi-security Intergalactic Bank, the Doctor discovers that the computer system only recognises River Song’s face, inside he finds her dismantling the main computer and suspects she is up to something naughty.  However, a case of stolen identity gets more serious when River’s face begins to appear throughout history and the Bank vaults start to become crowded with Temporal Prisoners. Is this the result of a glitch, a sting or a bored computer nerd? Whatever it is is on its way to destroying all of space time and only the Doctor can do something about it.

Archipelago by Tim Foley

River Song makes one last request of the Doctor, to take a dangerous journey to the planet Fortuna. If he does so, she promises not to bother him again. However, this extraordinary voyage has storms battering their small vessel and confrontation with some brutal home truths.

Tim Foley said: “This is the wrong Doctor for River…  and we thought it would be really fun to explore what that actually meant. Unlike the other incarnations she’s met, she struggles to click with the Ninth Doctor. It’s an ‘unromance’! But why is that, is this Doctor too wounded from the Time War? Too different from River’s conception of the Doctor? There’s lots of exciting possibilities here.”

Left to right: Trevor Cooper, Jane Slavin, Helen Goldwyn and Christopher Eccleston

Doctor Who – The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Star-Crossed is now available to pre-order for £29.99 for a Collector’s Edition CD box set and digital download, or £22.99 for the digital download only.
