Comic Book Review – Star Wars #4

April 25, 2013 by admin

Robb Ghag reviews Star Wars #4…

“As Princess Leia’s stealth squadron lays a trap for the spy within their ranks, she soon realizes that the Rebels are ill prepared for the Empire’s zealous pursuit. Meanwhile, Han Solo flees from the Empire through the lower levels of Coruscant, and Luke Skywalker enjoys being grounded with a female friend…“

First and foremost, Alex Ross once again has knocked this cover out of the park!  It immediately forces a recall to the original Star Wars when we first meet Darth Vader and the capture of Princess Leia.

Brian Wood has captured the original wonder of Han and Chewie as they are escaping the Imperial Center after the events from issue #3.  Han still has some “moves” as he outruns the Imperial fighters.  A great scene, very well drawn, is when Chewie steps out of the hatch and begins to blast the fighters out of the sky with his laser crossbow (I’m hoping something similar to this scene will be seen in Episode VII!).

Again, the story progresses well, expanding the characters in this new ongoing series, many familiar faces from the Star Wars movie re-appear:  Princess Leia, Ben Kenobi and of course Darth Vader himself.  A great splash page by Carlos D’Anda re-introduces C-3PO and R2-D2 into the storyline.  It’s absolutely stunning, and if the cover artwork didn’t have you hooked, then this one page will!

I’m completely hooked on this new series, and I can’t compliment it enough.  The cover for the next by Ross looks absolutely amazing, again evoking feelings of nostalgia for any Star Wars fan.  If this weren’t enough to keep you interested and buying the series, keep in mind almost every issue has gone through several reprint runs.

And for all us comic nerds, FREE COMIC BOOK DAY falls on May the 4th this year, so be sure to visit your local comic book peddler for some free SWAG!
