Comic Book Review – Transformers: Robots in Disguise #15

March 27, 2013 by admin

Luke Owen reads issue #15 of Transformers: Robots in Disguise…

THE END OF THE WORLD! When Cybertron collapses—who will pick up the pieces? MEGATRON stands poised to triumph—locked in final battle with BUMBLEBEE, STARSCREAM, METALHAWK, and PROWL! One will stand… the rest will fall.

A couple of weeks ago, fellow on-going Transformers comic More Than Meets The Eye had an epic (if poorly put together) issue which featured some character deaths, twists and engaging turns. It was about time too as it has always fallen many steps behind its Robots in Disguise brother. But can the superior comic pull something out of the bag to top the story of its lesser once again?

Of course it can.

Transformers: Robots in Disguise #15 carries on the fantastic work that John Barber, Andrew Griffith and Brian Shearer have been doing. The story is detailed and engaging, the artwork is stunning and the characters are just perfect (Soundwave notwithstanding). Griffith and Shearer have created this dark and brooding war-strewn world for the Transformers and it sucks you into the story incredibly well. Each character is so well designed and unique that it reminds you of how much you love this franchise. The new form of Devastator is awesome and his (for lack of a better word) devastation is reminiscent of the opening Earth battle from The Transformers: The Movie.

In fact, a lot of this issue did remind me of that movie. Whether it was intentional or not, Barber has clearly been influenced by the movie. It does make for a cracking comic though.

The spotlight for the last few issues has been on Prowl who is currently under the control of Megatron. And even though he is once again the focus (with some very well written narration), the star of the issue is Arcee who is depicted in such an awesome manner. She’s a woman with no sides and her allegiances can swing on a dime which leads to a moment towards the end of the issue that I did not see coming.

Transformers: Robots in Disguise has never been perfect, but it’s always been better than More Than Meets The Eye. This issue is no exception. Fans of the series will get a kick from it and even if you’re not, you could quite easily jump into the story and not feel lost.
