ComicBookMovie.com reviews Holy Franchise, Batman!

June 21, 2012 by admin

There’s just over a week to go until the UK release of Holy Franchise, Batman! Bringing the Caped Crusader to the Screen, and a splendid new review has been posted by Mark “RorMachine” Cassidy of ComicBookMovie.com, who has been kind enough to give it five stars, describing the book as “by far the most comprehensive guide to Batman on screen available”.

Here’s an excerpt from the review…

Holy Franchise Batman! documents the entire screen history of The Caped Crusader, from his first appearance in the ’40s tv serial right up to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises – and even his many animated appearances too.

It begins by delving into the creation of the character by Bob Kane and goes in-depth on every single screen incarnation since, even Halle Berry’s Catwoman gets a mention. Each movie/tv show/cartoon is covered under various headings such as “Cast”, “Story”, “Reception”, “Bat-Facts” etc to ensure no stone is left unturned, and believe me, it is not. Hands down this is by far the most comprehensive guide to Batman on screen available…

Even if you are just a casual Batman fan I would highly recommend it, but if you love The Dark Knight then it is essential.

Be sure to read the full review, and check back here at Flickering Myth tomorrow for a chance to win a copy of the book ahead of its release next Friday.

HOLY FRANCHISE BATMAN: BRINGING THE CAPED CRUSADER TO THE SCREEN:

Since the Caped Crusader first made the leap from comics to silver screen in the early 1940s, generations of audiences have been captivated by the screen adventures of Batman, establishing the celebrated comic book hero as a true icon of popular culture. Now, Gary Collinson traces the entire screen history of Bob Kane’s Dark Knight Detective, providing a fascinating insight into one of the most successful media franchises of all time.

Beginning with the early movie serials of the 1940s, Holy Franchise, Batman! charts the development of Batman’s many exploits across both live-action and animation, presenting a comprehensive overview of his illustrious screen career. From the classic 1960s television series starring Adam West and Burt Ward to the hugely successful blockbuster feature films from directors Tim Burton (Batman, Batman Returns), Joel Schumacher (Batman Forever, Batman & Robin) and Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises), as well as early Saturday morning cartoon outings through to the acclaimed ‘DC Animated Universe’, this book explores the evolution of Batman – a journey that has taken him from ‘camp’ crime-fighter to Dark Knight.

Holy Franchise, Batman! is published by Robert Hale and is available for pre-order via Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. Alternatively, click here for a full list of stockists.
