Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss sets release date with new gameplay trailer

October 24, 2025 by Andrew Newton

NACON and developer Big Bad Wolf have unveiled the release date for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss via a brand-new gameplay trailer (see below). This new story-driven investigation game will let players dive into the Cthulhu mythos on 16th April 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, but it will be possible to register for the next playtest by visiting nacongaming.com.

Inspired by the world of Lovecraft, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss puts players in the role of Noah, a specialist in the paranormal, who has been sent to investigate the disappearance of miners at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Noah can use a range of useful tools equipped on his personal AI, KEY, to help with the investigation, such as using a sonar to reveal details that are difficult to see with the naked eye.

Players will explore a variety of different environments, from on land to deep under the ocean, and be challenged by an assortment of riddles and puzzles with multiple solutions. One main location that Noah will visit is the city of R’lyeh, where Cthulhu is imprisoned. Here, Noah will encounter many eldritch creatures faithful to that cosmic god, who will blur the line between reality and nightmare.

There are several different endings for players to discover, based on Noah’s actions throughout the game and whether he has managed to maintain his sanity.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on 16th April. Visit mynacongaming.com to register for the next playtest on 28th October.
