David Bradley’s First Doctor to Return to Marinus in new Doctor Who audio adventure

October 3, 2025 by Andrew Newton

There’s a new full-cast audio adventure heading for the First Doctor this January as Big Finish announce The First Doctor Unbound: Return to Marinus, the second in the new trilogy starring David Bradley as the First Doctor. This new full-cast audio drama is a sequel to the 1964 TV serial The Keys of Marinus.

Return to Marinus sees the Doctor and his companions, Susan, Ian and Barbara, arrive back on the planet Marinus one whole century after their previous visit. Here they are treated as legendary heroes, as figures worthy of admiration, but something is not quite right. The Doctor notices that the people live in peace and harmony, whether they want to or not, leading him to believe that the Conscience Machine has been reactivated and is removing free will from the people. Who is behind this activation? The Doctor intends to find out.

David Bradley is joined by Claudia Grant as Susan, Jamie Glover as Ian, Jemma Powell as Barbara, Joseph Millson, Tomothy Blore, and Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks.

The First Doctor Unbound: Return to Marinus will release in January 2026 and is available to pre-order now for £13.99 for the download and £16.99 for the download and the limited collector’s edition CD.
