DC’s The Metal Men animated film in the works from Ron Clements and John Musker

December 6, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Disney animation legends Ron Clements and John Musker are heading to the DC Universe, with the filmmakers behind the likes of The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and The Princess and the Frog set to adapt The Metal Men for Warner Animation Group.

Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru and debuting back in 1962, The Metal Men are six artificially intelligent robot superheroes created by scientist Dr. William Magnus, who have powers and personalities associated with their respective metals — Gold, Iron, Lead, Tin, Mercury and Platinum.

Clements and Musker have written the treatment for The Metal Men with Celeste Ballard (Space Jam: A New Legacy), and are producing the film and also eyeing the director’s chair(s).

According to THR, Warner Animation Group is expected to “lean more heavily” on the DC brand as it looks to build its output. First up is DC League of Super-Pets, which is set to open in May 2022 and sees Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart leading in the voice cast as Krypto the Superdog and Ace. Watch the trailer here.
