Deadpool crosses $600 million; now the third biggest R-rated movie of all-time

February 28, 2016 by admin

It’s good to be The Merc with a Mouth at this point in time, as Deadpool has crossed another landmark.

Deadpool earned around $31.5 million this weekend to remain at the top of the US domestic box office, where it is now the third biggest R-rated movie of all-time behind American Sniper and The Passion of the Christ. Added together with its international takings and the movie now sits at $608.9 million.

Not bad for a movie with a $58 million budget.

In terms of superhero competition, its domestic taking of $285 million puts it just behind Man of Steel ($291 million), Iron Man ($318 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy ($333 million). It will likely overtake Man of Steel next weekend, and will probably leap-frog Iron Man in the coming weeks.

Deadpool is out now and sees Ryan Reynolds reprising the role of the Merc with a Mouth alongside T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction) as Weasel, Morena Baccarin (Gotham) as Copycat, Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) as Angel Dust, Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) as Ajax, Stefan Kapicic (24) as Colossus, Leslie Uggams (Roots) as Blind Al and newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
