Disney and Marvel planning “a new franchise beyond Avengers”

May 9, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Bob Iger has revealed that Disney and Marvel have plans for a successor franchise to the Avengers.

With Avengers: Infinity War currently dominating the box office, well on its way to being one of highest grossing movies in history, it’s hard to imagine Disney ever wanting to retire the franchise.

While Disney isn’t ruling out more Avengers movies beyond Avengers 4, CEO of the company Bob Iger has stated on an earnings call (via THR) that there are plans for what comes next:

“We meet on a regular basis with our Marvel team, and we’ve plotted out Marvel movies that will take us well into the next decade. I’m guessing we will try our hand at what I’ll call a new franchise beyond Avengers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t see more Avengers down the road. We just haven’t made any announcements about that.

“Given the popularity of the characters and given the popularity of the franchise, I don’t think people should conclude there will never be another Avengers movie.”

What do you make of Iger’s comments? Perhaps after Avengers 4, shelving the series for a while and replacing it with another team-up adventure will be a good way to keep things fresh. Or would you rather Avengers stayed alive in perpetuity?
