Disney CEO Bob Iger isn’t ruling out future Star Wars trilogies

December 18, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, says he is not ruling out future trilogies in the Star Wars franchise.

This month, the Skywalker saga and the sequel Star Wars trilogy is coming to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We have also learned from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy that they will be moving away from trilogies in the future.

However, Disney CEO Bob Iger has other ideas and hasn’t ruled out trilogies as a future storytelling framework. Speaking with Variety about Kennedy’s comments, Iger said: “Oh, I don’t know about that. She and I have said, ‘Well, maybe trilogies are too hard, so maybe we’ll make one film and then a sequel,’ but we don’t know.”

It seems like nothing is set in stone quite yet regarding Star Wars’ future on the big screen. We know that The Mandalorian is getting a second season and that the Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan series are on the way but as for movies, we will have to wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
