Disney CEO Bob Iger says the number of Star Wars projects in development is “smaller than you think”

December 17, 2019 by Liam Waddington

The Skywalker Saga is set to come to an end this Christmas with the release of The Rise of Skywalker, but Episode IX won’t be the last Star Wars project to come out in the near future thanks to the Disney+ streaming service. However, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, the actual number of projects in development is “probably smaller than you think.”

During an interview with Variety at the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Iger didn’t give a specific number of projects in development, but he does suggest Lucasfilm is picking their projects more carefully.

“Probably smaller than you think because what we do is, we look to pick a few and see how they gestate,” he explained. “In some cases, bring them out and see how the audience reacts and then react accordingly. It’s not as many as I think most people think. I think the number is endless, but we’re gonna be careful, the next one is really important.”

In addition to The Rise of Skywalker, the Star Wars projects we already know about include The Mandalorian which will be getting a second season on Disney+, two more series focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor respectively, and more movies including a Kevin Feige developed project and Rian Johnson’s rumoured trilogy.
