Disney Chairman says Indiana Jones movie two to three years away

Since Disney acquired the full rights to the Indiana Jones franchise, there’s been plenty of speculation about whether the studio intends on bringing Harrison Ford’s archaeologist back for a fifth adventure (spurred on in no small part by producer Frank Marshall), but speaking at Variety’s Dealmakers Breakfast today, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn has revealed that another Indy movie is at least two to three years away.

“We don’t have a story. We need a story,” says Horn about the current status of Indiana Jones 5 before revealing why Disney sought to gain full rights to the franchise going forward. “It didn’t make sense to produce the movie at Disney and then have it be distributed and marketed by Paramount.”

Meanwhile, speaking about Disney’s plans for Star Wars – beginning with 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII – Horn has revealed that former Lucasfilm chief and Star Wars creator George Lucas remains involved with the new movies as a consultant: “We are proceeding as the folks who own the company, but he’s George Lucas and I’m sure we’ll be in conversations with him.”
