Doctor Who – The Third Doctor Adventures: Intelligence for War coming this October from Big Finish

July 7, 2023 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish has revealed that the Third Doctor and Dr Elizabeth Shaw will be making a return this October in Doctor Who – The Third Doctor Adventures: Intelligence for War, a brand-new seven-part full-cast audio drama.

Inspired by the beloved series 7 era of Doctor Who on television, The Third Doctor Adventures: Intelligence for War finds the Doctor and Elizabeth Shaw investigating the incident of the vanishing Nazi soldier in the quiet Norfolk village of Huncleath.  There seems to be a connection between the Nazi soldier, the disappearance of the village’s wealthiest resident, Francis Teeling and the anti- war campaigners in Cambridge and the Doctor wonders if time travel technology is to blame.

As Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart mobilises UNIT, the secret branch of the British military, he worries for Dr Elizabeth Shaw as she makes connections between her past and her future and fights against both incarceration and an unusual alien weapon.

The Third Doctor Adventures: Intelligence for War features the voice talents of Tim Treloar as the Doctor, Daisy Ashford as Elizabeth Shaw (daughter of Caroline John – the original Elizabeth Shaw on TV) and Jon Culshaw as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart.

Script editor and director Nicholas Briggs said “I was very keen to have Liz at the centre of this story, in a way that would never have been done back in 1970. That was my brief to Big
Finish stalwart writer Eddie Robson: ‘Make it all about Liz’. And that’s our modern twist in a tale of intrigue, treachery and, of course, alien threat.”

Actor Daisy Ashford added: “I always love coming back to Liz Shaw. This story is particularly great because she has a very biting humour and dry wit to her this time. And she’s been a little bit naughty! Believe it or not, she’s been accused of something terrible and finds herself locked up.”

Doctor Who – The Third Doctor Adventures: Intelligence for War is available to pre-order now  from Big Finish as a collector’s edition CD box set (+ digital download) for just £19.99 or as a digital download only for just £16.99.
