DVD Review – Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever (2012)

May 28, 2013 by admin

Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever, 2012.

Directed by Callum Waddell.
Featuring Corey Feldman, Christopher Smith, Adam Green, Tobe Hooper, Tom Holland, Eduardo Sánchez and Felissa Rose.

SYNOPSIS:

A celebration of slasher cinema – from the early 1960’s beginnings  to the present day, with a focus on highlighting many of the genre’s forgotten cult classics…

This smartly created and insightful documentary chops and hunts down its way through the history of the slasher flick in a thorough and fun loving manner. For anyone with the slightest enjoyment in such films, this is a must see.

For the dedicated fan it is a terrific insight into the thought processes of the filmmakers behind such diverse scare flare fare as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Triangle, Final Destination and Hostel. And for the more casual lover of horror it can be enjoyed as something of a film geek party, where all the drinks are red and bloody!

Tracing its way back to the very beginnings of the horror sub-genre to 1960 with Psycho and Peeping Tom the well judged doc makes its way right up to the present day. With no signs of the appeal of slashers fading, much thought is given as to why this happens to be the case. Most agree that it is essentially a combination of extreme horror with a b-movie sense of fun and humour that translates so well to audiences across the generations.

A great success of the film is for horror fans wishing to widen their knowledge. At an approximate tally up there are nearly a hundred movies mentioned in the film; from classics such as Halloween and Profondo Rosso to lesser known titles such as Splatter University and Bad Girls from Mars.

Featuring some of the film’s creators and stars – including bonus for 80s lovers Corey Feldman showing off an excellent knowledge of the genre –  the doc arrives packed with extras including a selection of over 20 classic trailers and tons of additional interviews.

Overall, it’s a bloody good show!
