Elizabeth Olsen excited to go full Scarlet Witch in Marvel’s WandaVision

October 23, 2020 by Gary Collinson

While we’ve seen glimpses of her incredible potential, most notably in Avengers: Endgame when she went up against Thanos, Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff is yet to fully unleash her powers upon the Marvel Cinematic Universe in her various appearances throughout the franchise, but it appears that is all about to change this December’s Disney+ series WandaVision.

Marvel Studios supremo Kevin Feige has previously confirmed that the series will see Wanda completing her journey to becoming the Scarlet Witch, and now Olsen has shared her excitement about getting to portray a more comic book accurate incarnation of the Avenger.

“WandaVision is such an incredible concept,” said Olsen in an interview with The New York Times. “It’s the first time we get to understand her as the Scarlet Witch that she is in the comics, and that’s exciting for me, because I haven’t yet been able to give her that time onscreen. So that’s going to be fun. She’s always been a representation of mental health and illness in the comic book series, and her major role is handling that stigma within Marvel.

Given the Scarlet Witch’s reality-altering powers – not to mention her upcoming involvement in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – Wanda is shaping up to become a key figure in the MCU during the early days of Phase Four and it will certainly be interesting to see what impact this all has on the landscape of the entire cinematic universe.

Marvel Studios’ captivating new series WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, and marks the first series from Marvel Studios streaming exclusively on Disney+. The series is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

WandaVision is set to premiere in December 2020 and features a cast that includes Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (Vision), Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis), Randall Park (Agent Jimmy Woo),  Teyonah Parris (Empire) as Monica Rambeau, and Kathryn Hahn (Bad Moms) as Agnes.
