Fast & Furious spin-off pushed back to August 2019

May 10, 2018 by Ricky Church

It looks like Universal’s Hobbs and Shaw spin-off film from the Fast & Furious franchise has had its release date pushed back, albeit a very minor one. Originally set for July 26th, 2019, the spin-off will instead come out a week later on August 2nd.

There’s no apparent reason as to why the spin-off was pushed back a week. It had the July 26th weekend all to itself, but with the move to August 2nd its placed in competition with the X-Men spin-off The New Mutants, the live-action Dora The Explorer and an untitled Warner Bros. film.

John Wick and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch will helm the Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham spin-off. It will centre on Johnson’s Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs, who has appeared in the franchise since Fast Five, and Jason Statham’s mercenary assassin Deckard Shaw, who first joined the franchise in a post-credits scene for Fast & Furious 6 before appearing as an antagonist in Furious 7 and unexpected ally in The Fate of the Furious.
