First image from Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta

August 31, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Pathe Films and SBS Productions have unveiled a first look image from Benedetta, the latest film from Paul Verhoeven (RoboCop, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers), which features Elle actress Virginie Efira as 17th century nun Sister Benedetta Carlini.

Formerly titled Blessed Virgin, the film is based upon historian Judith C. Brown’s 1986 book Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy and tells the story of Carlini, “a 17th-century nun who suffers from disturbing religious and erotic visions. A companion is assigned to assist her through these visions, and the relationship between the two women develops into a romantic affair.”

Benedetta is currently shooting in Italy, with a cast that also includes Charlotte Rampling, Daphné Patakia, Lambert Wilson, Olivier Rabourdin and Louise Chevillotte.
