First look at The Last Jedi characters, Namor project rumoured, will Arnie be in The Predator and more – Daily News Roundup

February 17, 2017 by Luke Owen

FORCE FRIDAY FIRST LOOK

Well, it might not be until September but the Star Wars Twitter account released a teaser image of the packaging for Star Wars: The Last Jedi merchandise. While it doesn’t give a lot away, it does give our first look at Rey, Finn and Poe in the film – including a new hairstyle for Daisy Ridley as well as putting her front and centre with a lightsaber. There’s still no update on the trailer, but that should be with us by Star Wars Celebration in April. Read more about that story here.

THANK YOU, SUB-MARINER

With Avengers: Infinity War currently in production, Marvel Studios appear to be looking towards their next set of projects. According to a tweet from Reel New Hawaii, Namor the Sub-Mariner is the next character in line for adaptation, but it doesn’t specify if its a film or TV show. One would assume it’s a movie as the tweet says it will be in direct competition with Aquaman (which is also filming in Hawaii), but that depends on when that film goes into production. If it’s soon, then Sub-Mariner could be a new TV show, joining The Inhumans and Clock & Dagger. Read more about that story here.

GET TO DA CHOPARGHHH!

It had been assumed that Shane Black’s The Predator would be a sequel to the franchise following on from Predator, Predator 2 and Predators, but a new interview with one of its actors – Boyd Holbrook – is claiming otherwise. It’s not a sequel; Shane Black has made something totally new, somehow keeping within the realm of Predator [while also being] absolutely new in terms of the story that we’re talking about today, and rooted in something real,” he said. “It’s real fresh. I don’t think you’re going to see [Arnold] Schwarzenegger. It would kind of make it a gimmick. It’s horror, science-fiction and a western.” No Arnie in the movie?! Boo. Read more about that story here.

NOT THE END FOR X

While we know that Logan will be the last outing for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (for now at least), we could see more appearances from Patrick Stewart’s Professor X. “Hugh has raised the flag that says goodbye. I haven’t done that yet,” he told Entertainment Tonight. Read more about that story here.

NO SEASON FOR THE WITCH

Last week gave us the bombshell news that John Carpenter was returning to the Halloween franchise for a new reboot from David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, and now the writer of the movie (McBride) has revealed that it’s not a remake at all. “You know, it’s not a remake,” said McBride. “It’s actually, it’s gonna continue the story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way. And for our mythology, we’re focusing mainly in the first two movies and what that sets up and then where the story can go from there.” This isn’t the first time a franchise sequel has claimed to steer away from its litany of sequels, as Bryan Singer’s Superman Lives did the same thing as well as Neill Blomkamp’s proposed Alien 5. Read more about that story here.

BET ON THE HOUSE

The first trailer for new comedy movie The House landed online yesterday. The movie stars Saturday Night Live veterans Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler along with Jason Mantzoukas, Ryan Simpkins, Cedric Yarbrough, Nick Kroll and Michaela Watkins. Watch the trailer here.
