Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Carrie Coon was initially hesitant to join the sequel

September 16, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Carrie Coon, who is set to play the mother of Finn Wolfhard’s Trevor and Mckenna Grace’s Phoebe in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, was initially hesitant to join the cast of the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel.

During an interview with Collider, Coon revealed that she was initially apprehensive about joining Ghostbusters: Afterlife due to her taking on the role of a mother character but assures the fans that her role is more than just a background character.

“Yeah, that was certainly one of the things I was afraid of when I first was approached about it. I think of Dee Wallace in ET who is a wonderful actress who then sort of became – well, she actually went on, had a really interesting life, but, you know, she became sort of the franchise mom,” Coon said. “And I thought about that, but Jason is smarter than that. Jason is the next generation, and he wrote a lot of fun for all of us, and it was one of the reasons I said yes to it. You know, she actually has a personality, a sense of humor and she does get in on the action, and that was really fun for me! I mean, I’m a Ghostbuster basically, which is insane! I grew up with that movie!”

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman and stars Carrie Coon (The Leftovers), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Mckenna Grace (Captain Marvel), Paul Rudd (Avengers: Endgame), Bokeem Woodbine (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Celeste O’Connor (Wetlands), Oliver Cooper (Mindhunter) and newcomer Logan Kim, along with returning Ghostbusters cast members Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz), Bill Murray (Peter Venkman), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore), Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett), and Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz). The film is set for release on March 5th 2021.
