Ghostbusters: Ecto Force animated series announced, will be set in 2050

June 21, 2016 by Gary Collinson

The Ghostbusters franchise returns to the big screen next month courtesy of Paul Feig’s reboot, and Variety is reporting that it’s also heading back to the small screen with a new animated series entitled Ghostbusters: Ecto Force.

The Sony Animation series will be spearheaded by Ivan Reitman, director of the original two Ghostbusters movies, and will be set in the year 2050. The show will follow “a new generation of Ghostbusters in the year 2050 who capture ghosts around the world with help from local teams—and some very cool gear!”

This will be the third Ghostbusters animated series after the hugely successful The Real Ghostbusters, which ran from 1986 to 1991, and the short-lived spinoff sequel Extreme Ghostbusters from 1997.
