Ti West’s X prequel Pearl achieved that rarest of feats by surpassing the original film on almost every level, including a stunning central performance from newly-crowned scream-queen Mia Goth as the titular-killer.
So it comes as no surprise that actors are clamouring to join the 80s-set trilogy-capper MaXXXine, which has just announced an impressive line-up of would-be victims in the shape of Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Elizabeth Debicki (Inception), musician Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), pop-star Halsey and genre icon Kevin Bacon (Friday the 13th). 2022 saw Ti West’s trilogy take shape with X, a 70s set slasher that paid homage to some of the genre’s very best films, while the covertly-shot prequel Pearl blew everyone away (read our ★★★★★ review here) with its shades of grey, as-well-as a fair dollop of red, depiction of what shaped Mia Goth’s murderous farm-girl. The upcoming third entry MaXXXine will follow her final girl from X as she attempts to conquer Hollywood in a film that Goth has hyped up as “the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes”.
