Harvey Weinstein scandal heading to the big screen

April 30, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After rocking Hollywood and serving as a major catalyst for the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements last year, it has been announced that Brad Pitt’s Plan B and Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures are teaming up for a feature film about the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment and assault scandal.

According to THR, the plan is not to tell the tale of Weinstein and his purported crimes, but rather the story of New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey’s efforts to expose Weinstein, pushing through with their October article ‘Harvey Weinstein Paid Off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades’ despite facing various threats and intimidation.

The duo’s work earned them a Pulizter Prize, which they shared with Ronan Farrow for his work at The New Yorker, and immediately led to Weinstein being fired from The Weinstein Company (which has since filed for bankruptcy) as well as being removed from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as further allegations emerged. It also triggered a wave of allegations against many other men in powerful positions in the entertainment industry, including the likes of Kevin Spacey, John Lasseter, Louis C.K., James Toback and Brett Ratner.

At this point, Plan B and Annapurna have no writer or filmmaker on board.
