Hauntsville brings Wild West horror to Steam with launch trailer

March 11, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Hauntsville, the Wild West open-world horror survival game from indie.io and solo developer Michael Janisch is now available on Steam.  This new survival title blends tense first-person combat, base-building and unnatural horrors with the Old West to make a unique fight for survival.  Watch the new launch trailer below…

With Hauntsville, travel back to 1897 and take the role of a nameless traveller who has become stranded at a once-thriving frontier town. The once bustling town is eerily quiet, there are no horses, no sounds and no townsfolk, all that is left are cryptic notes hastily scribbled by fleeing inhabitants, strange symbols and occult artifacts.  Where once there was the noise of horses and businesses, now there’re just unearthly howls in the dark and the feeling of being watched.

Surviving in this part of the Old West is harsh and unforgiving and players will need to scavenge for supplies, gather materials, construct a base and create the weapons and tools needed to defend themselves from the horrors that come out after dark.  Players will find all they need to survive, there are forests full of wood, mines with ores and abandoned structures to loot. There is also plenty of land with which to grow crops and collect drinking water.

The Cursed West is ever-changing, sudden storms, dense fog and even blizzards can bury paths, turning simple supply runs into a desperate fight for survival.  Every night surviving the cryptids and spectral horrors of North American folklore is a victory and for those who want to share the victory with others, up to four players can join forces in online co-op.

Hauntsville is available now on Steam.
