Hauntsville to bring the horror of the Old West to Steam this March

February 12, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Indie.io has announced they will be releasing Hauntsville, by independent developer Michael Janisch, on Steam on 10th March.  This upcoming survival horror will take players to the old west where cryptids are real and very deadly. Players are now able to get their first taste of the Cursed West in the new playable demo on Steam.  Watch the new trailer below…

Hauntsville takes players back to 1897 and the wild, wild west in an open-world survival horror that will have them shooting off lead at their own shadows.  Taking the role of a nameless traveller, players will visit a once-thriving frontier town and quickly discover that things are not quite right.  There are no horses, no sounds and no townsfolk, all that is left are cryptic notes, strange symbols and a lone, mysterious merchant.  Of course, there’s also the unearthly howls in the dark and the feeling of being watched.

Players will need to survive whatever took out a town full of people and scavenge for supplies, craft weapons and tools and build a stronghold that will protect them from the predators once the Sun sets. To defend themselves from these hordes of cryptids, spectral horrors and otherworldly visitors, players will be able to arm themselves with a variety of classic Western firearms like Colts, Winchester rifles and lever-action rifles. However, players need to make sure that every bullet counts.

Exploring the game world is vital and there are many locations filled with both danger and opportunity. There are supplies, resources, food and more to discover if players are brave enough to face the danger.  It’s not just the creatures that players need to be wary of, the valley the game world is set in is ever-changing, with sudden storms, dense fog and even blizzards burying paths.  As these changes occur, new threats emerge and players will have to adapt if they are to survive.

For those who find it too scary to go it alone, they can join up to three friends in online co-op and gather resources, uncover the valley’s secrets and fight off the creatures together.

Hauntsville arrives on Steam on 10th March, but visit the game’s Steam page now and experience the horror in the new demo.
