Hellboy to feel less ‘popcorn-y’ and more like Logan, according to David Harbour

February 2, 2018 by Jordan Jones

While we wait for a trailer to officially release for the upcoming Hellboy reboot, we can leave it to star David Harbour to drop us a few juicy morsels from time to time. The actor has spoken about the film in the past, promising something much darker than we are used to with the character. Today, speaking with THR, the actor dropped a few hints as to what we can expect from the film, and Hellboy himself:

“This was something that I couldn’t pass up because I love those [Mike] Mignola comics. And the mythos we are in now, I feel like two strains are running. They are making these kind of popcorn-y, somewhat two-dimensional comic book movies and then there is this strain like Logan and Deadpool. That is what I am drawn to in the genre. I would love to do a Hellboy where you love him, but you’re also not quite sure about him.”

The comparison to Logan seem to imply that this will be a more character-driven film, and it definitely seems like Harbour is trying to make Hellboy as complex as he can. It will be really interesting to see how his take  on the character differs from Ron Perlman’s.

Hellboy is being directed by Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones), with Stranger Things star David Harbour taking on the lead role alongside Ian McShane (American Gods) as Professor Broom, Sasha Lane (American Honey) as Alice Monaghan, Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) as the Queen of Blood, Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-O) as Major Ben Daimio and Penelope Mitchell (The Vampire Diaries) as Ganeida.
