After a 14-day mandated quarantine, Cameron and his crew will look to start production on the first two sequels to 2009’s Avatar. Production on these movies have been total shut down since mid-March when New Zealand began a strict lockdown in response to the  global health crisis, and mostly closed its borders.

While borders are officially still closed, Cameron, Landau, and the foreign crew members used a border exemption clause for foreigners considered of ‘significant economic value’. To lower the production’s footprint, the crew will use indoor facilities for the entire movie in studios across Wellington and Auckland.

Avatar 2 sees Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Matt Gerald, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver all reprising their roles from the first film, while new additions to the cast include Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Filip Geljo, Jamie Flatters, Bailey Bass, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Duane Evans Jr., Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Keston John and CJ Jones.
