James Cameron congratulates Marvel after Avengers: Endgame dethrones Avatar

July 22, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Thirteen weeks after its monster box office opening, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame put an end to Avatar’s ten year reign as the highest-grossing movie of all time this past weekend, the superhero epic pushing its global total to $2.79 billion.

For the first time since Titanic’s release almost 22 years ago, James Cameron no longer holds the distinction of having directed the biggest movie ever, but he’s taken it gracefully with the filmmaker taking to Twitter to offer his congratulations to Marvel Studios.
