Jimmy Smits set for Miguel Prado return in Dexter: Resurrection

March 27, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Jimmy Smits has become the latest Dexter veteran to sign on to the cast of the upcoming sequel series Dexter: Resurrection, with the actor set to reprise his role as Assistant District Attorney-turned-serial killer Miguel Prado.

Smits’ Prado was killed by Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan in the season three finale of the original show, but as with John Lithgow’s Arthur Mitchell, a.k.a. the Trinity Killer, that hasn’t prevented his return in the new series, which has been in production since January. It’s unclear how both Smits and Lithgow will factor into the upcoming series, although it will presumably be flashbacks similar to Lithgow’s cameo in the previous limited series Dexter: New Blood.

Dexter: Resurrection comes hot on the heels of last year’s prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which set up the new show by revealing in its opening scene that Dexter has survived the finale of 2021’s Dexter: New Blood. Specific plot details are being kept under wraps, but the returning cast also includes David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan and James Remar as Dexter’s father Harry Morgan.

New additions to the cast for Resurrection include Uma Thurman as Charley, Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva and Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera. Previously announced stars are Neil Patrick Harris, who will play Lowell, Krysten Ritter as Mia Lapierre, Eric Stonestreet as Al and David Dastmalchian as Gareth.
