Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill are back for new Doctor Who adventure The Return of the Doctor

September 9, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill return as the Doctor and Yasmin in Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures – The Return of the Doctor, a new Thirteenth Doctor audio adventure from Big Finish. This is the second of twelve full-cast audio drama adventures for the duo, and sees them making a rare return to a world that the Doctor has previously helped. A new trailer, narrated by Jodie, can be seen below…

In The Return of the Doctor by Rory Thomas Howes, the Doctor and Yaz are leaving the planet Zaar after saving its people from an evil alien threat. As the TARDIS sets out for a new destination and a new adventure, Yaz feels the urge to return, like something is right. The Doctor rarely makes a return visit to planets, but grudgingly does so after being convinced by her companion.

When the TARDIS rematerialises on Zaar, the door opens to a very different world from the one they left, a world in ruins. As the Doctor ponders what they could have possibly done to cause such devastation, Yaz is concerned about the voice she’s hearing in her head.

Joining Jodie and Mandip are Belinda Stewart-Wilson (The Inbetweeners) as Vashir, Charlie Kelly (The Terror) as Azaan, Will Kirk (The Gathering) as Talpa, and Stephan Bessant (Peaky Blinders) as Taav.

Jodie Whittaker said: “What’s great about this episode is the exploration of Yaz being a bit more combative against the Doctor. Very often we’re quite in sync, but for the Doctor particularly, getting challenged and having to justify certain bits of her personality, it’s really good for her.”

Doctor Who – The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures: The Return of the Doctor is available from the Big Finish website for £9.99 for the download or £11.99 for the limited Collector’s Edition CD.
