Having voiced the characters of Pre Vizsla in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rio Durant in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Jon Favreau returns to the galaxy far, far away this year, albeit behind the camera, as the creator and showrunner of Star Wars’ first live-action TV series The Mandalorian.
During an interview with GQ, Favreau has revealed that in preparation for the show, he sought the advice of Star Wars creator George Lucas, who imparted some of his wisdom on The Lion King director:
“We had a long talk with each other,” said Favreau. “One thing he said to me was, ’remember, Jon, the real audience for all stories and all myths is the kids that are coming of age’, because he’s really a Joseph Campbell adherent. We enjoy the stories as adults, but really, storytelling is about imparting the wisdom of the previous generations on to the children who are becoming adults, and giving them a context for how to behave and how to learn the lessons of the past without making the mistakes on their own. That’s the hope, that you can teach them how to avoid all the hardship but garner all the wisdom.”

Favreau also went on to reveal that he’s currently hard at work on post-production on the show’s first season ahead of its November premiere on Disney+: “We’re actually in the editing bay now, I have to get back there after this. It’s looking great!”

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man). It is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 12th 2019.
