Jon Favreau on whether we might see Boba Fett in The Mandalorian

August 26, 2019 by Liam Waddington

The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau has addressed whether or not audiences can expect an appearance from the galaxy’s favourite bounty hunter – and Mandalorian – Boba Fett in the live-action Star Wars series.

Following on from the release of the first trailer at D23, which left some fans wondering whether the titular Mandalorian is in fact Boba Fett, showrunner Jon Favreau moved to play down the speculation in an interview with Good Morning America (via ComicBook.com):

“Boba Fett is not one of the all-new original characters [in the show]. There’s a 30-year stretch of story time that hasn’t been explored at all, except in the extended universe.”

This statement sounds like Favreau and company are wanting to tell a brand-new untold story between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. So, although that is not a definitive no, it seems unlikely Boba Fett will be involved in the upcoming Disney+ series. Unless this is all just misdirection?

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian has a cast including Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones), Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Angel Has Fallen), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man). The series is set to premiere on Disney+ on 12th November 2019.
