Jon Watts is not attached to direct the next Spider-Man movie

August 22, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Following on from Spider-Man’s exit for now from the MCU, it is now being reported that Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Far From Home, is not attached to direct the third movie in the series.

When news broke that the relationship between Disney and Sony had broken down, leaving Spider-Man shut out of the MCU, it was thought that director of Far From Home Jon Watts would still be making the third movie for Sony.

However, Deadline is reporting that this isn’t necessarily the case. Watts might be in the director’s chair for the film but at this time, he is not attached to direct: “Sony is planning two more installments, though it is an open question whether those will include Jon Watts, director of the first two films guided creatively by Feige. Watts isn’t signed on for the next film and isn’t a certainty to be back as he is being heavily courted for other jobs. Could Sony find itself vying against Marvel for Watts’ future services as director?”

It’s certainly going to be an interesting story to follow over the coming weeks and months. Would you like to see Watts stay on with the franchise along with Tom Holland? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter @flickeringmyth.
