Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to direct Dungeons & Dragons movie

August 4, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Having exited Warner Bros. and DC Films’ The Flash movie over creative differences, Spider-Man: Homecoming screenwriters and Game Night directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have now signed on to helm the big screen reboot of Dungeons & Dragons.

The new adaptation of the iconic role-playing game has been in development for several years now at Paramount Pictures and Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures, and previously had Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie) in the director’s chair. Michael Gilio (Kwik Stop) remains on board as screenwriter.

The fantasy role-playing game was previously adapted for the big screen by New Line Cinema in 2000, and while the film proved to be a critical and commercial disaster, it did spawn a made for TV sequel in 2005 and a straight-to-video third instalment in 2011. Warner Bros. attempted to get a big-budget reboot off the ground in 2015, with the project subsequently moving to Paramount in late 2017.

Dungeons & Dragons is slated for release on July 23rd 2021.
