Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel to start production in January

October 29, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle enjoyed an enormously successful box office run across the last holiday season and into this year, going toe-to-toe with Star Wars: The Last Jedi on its way to $962 million in global box office receipts.

With those figures making it Sony’s second-biggest release of all time behind Skyfall ($1.1 billion), it came as no surprise whatsoever that the studio decided to fast track a third instalment in the Jumanji franchise for release at Christmas 2019.

Well, it seems the production dates have now been set, as Omega Underground is reporting that the as-yet-untitled film will shoot in Atlanta and Hawaii between January 21st and April 26th 2019.

The film will reunite Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan and stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black.

Having wrapped Disney’s Jungle Cruise last month, The Rock is currently in production on the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw opposite Jason Statham, and is expected to squeeze another movie in before Jumanji 3, starring alongside Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot in the action thriller Red Notice.

In the brand new adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji.  When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan.  What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you.  They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever…

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sees Jake Kasdan (Sex Tape) directing a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson (The Fate of the Furious), Kevin Hart (Central Intelligence), Jack Black (Goosebumps), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Rhys Darby (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), Nick Jonas (Scream Queens), Alex Wolff (The Sitter), Madison Iseman (Still the King), Morgan Turner (Remember Me) and Ser’Darius Blain (Star Trek Into Darkness).
