Justice League scenes were shot featuring Superman’s black suit

December 8, 2017 by Gary Collinson

In the build up to the release of last month’s Justice League, there were several hints and suggestions that Superman’s black suit from the ‘Death of Superman’ story arc would feature in the movie. We had alleged leaked photos, action figures, and even social media posts suggesting as much from the Man of Steel himself Henry Cavill.

Well, as we now know, Superman wore his traditional blue and red costume throughout the movie, but during an interview with Inverse, cinematographer Fabian Wagner has confirmed that there were plans to include the black suit, but it ended up on the cutting room floor.

“There were [scenes shot],” said Wagner. “It’s a cool looking costume. Sadly, we didn’t see that either in the final cut.”

Now, we don’t know exactly how the black suit would have featured in the movie, but if Umberto Gonzalez – a.k.a. El Mayimbe – is to be believed, we’d not have seen Cavill actually wearing it…

re: Black Superman Suit. So originally when Superman was resurrected, in a chamber his black suit was there on display. He takes a quick at it and that's it. It was supposed to be a cool moment/easter egg for the fans. That was the extent of it.

Are you disappointed that the black suit was absent from Justice League? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League reunites Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
