Stranger Things season 2 was very well-received all around, but there was one particular episode of the season that was not so adored. Reviled, one could say. Entire articles were dedicated to it, with words like “embarrassing” not uncommon to read. That episode was “The Lost Sister”, and it’s been trashed so heavily by viewers that The Duffer Brothers actually had to go on record to defend it.
Now, was it that bad? Depends on who you ask. But one thing is for certain: that plot-line isn’t going anywhere. At the Vulture Film Festival, Matt Duffer talked a little about Kali, Jane’s — a.k.a. Eleven’s — “sister”. Will she show up in Season 3? Here’s what he said (via Deadline):
“It feels weird to me that we wouldn’t solve [Kali’s] storyline. I would say chances are very high she comes back… We are [in] very early days on season three and we’re still figuring it out.” Duffer was quick to catch himself, stressing that planning for the season is in a very early stage: “I probably wasn’t supposed to say that… That’s not official, that wasn’t an official announcement — we’re just working on it, just for our own amusement…for fun!”
Season 2 of Stranger Things was terrific. It gave us plenty of great new characters: Dart, Bob, Max, etc. It gave us a few new characters to replace all the Barb memes (Justice for Mews!), and even the effects were stronger this time around. Episode 7 stands as the truly polarizing part of an otherwise stellar sophomore effort. The Duffer Brothers have stated that Episode 7 stood as a way to explore life outside of Hawkins, Indiana. The second season of Stranger Things sees the return of cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery, along with new additions Sean Astin (The Goonies), Paul Reiser (Aliens), Linnea Berthelsen (The Desert), Sadie Sink (Odyssey), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers) and Brett Gelman (Brett Gelman’s Dinner in America). It will hit Netflix on October 27th.
