Kevin Smith announces that Hit Somebody will be a two-parter

August 16, 2011 by admin

Back in January filmmaker Kevin Smith made quite a stir at Sundance when he announced that he’d be self-distributing his latest film, the horror Red State, through the newly-formed SModcast Pictures, before going on to shock fans by stating that his next effort – the ice-hockey comedy drama Hit Somebody – would be his final film as a director.

Well it seems that fans can now look forward to two more outings, as Smith has revealed he plans to go down the same route as the likes of Kill Bill, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Hobbit and Twilight: Breaking Dawn by splitting the action across two movies. The director revealed the news at a Q&A in Montreal, stating that the script – which is based on the Warren Zevon song Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song) – had outgrown a single movie, and after contemplating turning it into an HBO series, he finally made the decision to turn it into a two-parter.

Hit Somebody: Part 1 is likely to detail the lead character’s younger days in Canada, while Part 2 will cover his time in the professional hockey leagues. So far the cast is said to include Alan Rickman, John Goodman, Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner, Melissa Leo, Stephen Root, Nicholas Braun and Michael Parks, with Smith expected to try and lure some of his previous actors back for his swansong, which presumably includes the likes of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Lee and Jason Mewes.
