Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton comic series to launch in June

May 25, 2025 by Gary Collinson

DC Comics has announced that Krypto is joining this year’s ‘Summer of Superman’ celebrations with his very own five-issue limited series to coincide with the character’s big screen debut in James Gunn’s Superman reboot.

Written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) with art from Mike Norton (Shazam!), Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton promises to present Krypto’s definitive origin story, delivering “a heartfelt and moving view of humanity, good and bad, through the empathic eyes of the ultimate outsider: a poor, lost dog, who just happens to have superpowers.”

“Krypto’s origin has always been done at kind of a high level,” said Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton Ryan North. “The little guy starts out on Krypton, ends up on Earth, and helps Superman fight crime. The chance to really define Krypto—to show what a little lost dog would go through if he landed all alone on a strange alien world named Earth—was really enticing. And I also fell in love with the idea of treating Krypto as the actual dog he is: he doesn’t talk, and we don’t cheat by reading his thoughts in balloons either. Mike Norton’s art captures exactly what needs to be ‘said’ in every scene.”

There will come a day when Krypto stands beside Superman, helping him fight off monsters, aliens, and supervillains—a day when this dog will save his adoptive world thanks to the incredible powers granted him by Earth’s strange yellow sun. But he’s not there yet.

Today, Krypto is a normal puppy on Krypton, spending each happy, snoozy, endless day alongside his family: Jor-El, Lara, and baby Kal-El. But when a rocket test goes wrong, Krypto finds himself lost in space—and soon crash-landing, all alone, on a strange and alien world called Earth.

Krypto: Last Dog of Krypton #1 will go on sale on June 18th.
