Legendary and Netflix tease King Kong MonsterVerse anime series Skull Island

June 9, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse – home to Godzilla and King Kong – is branching out into anime this year with the Netflix original series Skull Island, and the streamer has shared a first look teaser image as part of its Geeked Week festivities.

Skull Island is written and executive produced by Brian Duffield (Underwater, The Babysitter) and follows a group of shipwreck survivors who are desperate to escape the most dangerous place on Earth—a mysterious island home to prehistoric monsters, including the greatest Titan of them all, Kong.

Legendary’s MonsterVerse launched in 2014 with a reboot of Godzilla, and has since expanded to Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. A sequel to the latter is currently in the works with Adam Wingard returning to direct and Dan Stevens starring, while Legendary also recently signed a deal with Apple TV+ for a live-action MonsterVerse series from WandaVision director Matt Shakman.

Skull Island is coming soon to Netflix.
