Lucasfilm denies rumour that all Star Wars Anthology movies have been put on hold

A couple of days ago, a rumour surfaced claiming that Disney and Lucasfilm have decided to put all future Star Wars Anthology movies on hold following the hugely disappointing box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

According to the report, the studios have decided to focus their full attention on Star Wars: Episode IX and the next trilogy in the main saga. However, ABC News is reporting that this isn’t the case at all, with the Disney-owned outlet quoting a Lucasfilm source as confirming that:

“There are still multiple Star Wars films currently in development that have not been officially announced. Those projects are moving forward separate from an already-announced Star Wars trilogy being overseen by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and another series of movies from Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.”

Presumably, those unannounced projects include the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie (which may or may not have lost its director Stephen Daldry), and the Boba Fett film, which recently attached Logan helmer James Mangold to the director’s chair.

While Disney and Lucasfilm are likely to be taking a good look at their approach to Star Wars following the mixed reception towards Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the box office failure of Solo, it would seem that any reports concerning the future of the franchise are little more than speculation and guesswork at present.

Hopefully we’ll get some official news soon as to what’s in store after next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX.
