After sitting out the Civil War (being a little preoccupied on Sakaar), Bruce Banner and his alter-ego The Incredible Hulk are set to return to Earth this April for Avengers: Infinity War, and Mark Ruffalo has been chatting to Coming Soon about how his cosmic adventures have changed the character going in to the hotly-anticipated Marvel blockbuster.
“Banner’s had a life changing experience in Thor: Ragnarok that makes him much more expressive and not so internalized,” said Ruffalo. “So it’s not combative but (The Avengers) are not so in-sync as they were… Plus, Banner doesn’t understand Civil War. He just doesn’t get it.”
As teased in the mid-credits scene of Ragnarok, Bruce Banner is going to be one of the first Marvel heroes to cross paths Thanos as the Mad Titan attacks Thor’s spaceship. And it seems this encounter is going to have a big impact both on Banner and The Hulk:
“[Bruce] is privy to some information that is essential for their survival,” he continued. “Banner knows probably more about Thanos than probably anybody and he’s really trying to impress on everybody how dangerous he is… The Hulk is also mightily impressed by Thanos.”

Ruffalo was also asked whether he’d read any specific comic book stories in preparation for Infinity War, but revealed that the movie marks a big departure from the source material:
“This one we’re like, in new territory really. And it’s so different from the comic books. There’s elements that are clearly the same but when you really start to get into the story everything changes. Planet Hulk was a big influence for Thor 3, and the idea, the inkling of World War Hulk starts to… I read (that) way before doing this and there’s some interesting stuff in there, but honestly nothing so far directly related to this.”
