Marvel star Sebastian Stan suggests that Hugh Jackman is reconsidering his future as Wolverine

January 14, 2018 by Gary Collinson

In the weeks leading up to the announcement that The Walt Disney Company would be purchasing 21st Century Fox’s film assets, a rumour surfaced that Marvel was keen to have Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although he indicated back during the build up to Logan that the prospect of joining the MCU could tempt him out of superhero retirement, Jackman dismissed the speculation almost immediately, stating that “the ship has sailed”. Nevertheless, Thor star Chris Hemsworth revealed last week that he’ll be trying to convince Jackman to return, and now fellow Marvel star Sebastian Stan has indicated that Hugh may be having a change of heart.

“Recently, I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman,” said Stan during an appearance at Ace Comic-Con (via CBM). “I didn’t know what other awkward thing I could talk about, but to be like, ‘Am I going to see you soon?’ I don’t know, but he said a couple things to me and I’ll just leave it at that. Otherwise, I think I’m going to get into trouble… I asked him cause I kept thinking whether or not he said Logan was supposed to be the last Wolverine thing. He said to me what’s probably been said out there that he’s been thinking about it and it’s on his mind. So, I don’t know.”

Now, even if Jackman did decide that he’s open to another appearance, the decision would of course rest with Disney and Marvel Studios, and it would seem to make more sense for Marvel to reboot the entire X-Men roster outright. However, seeing Jackman’s Wolverine alongside the Avengers is sure to be an enormous box office draw, so the prospect certainly can’t be dismissed outright…

Would you like to see Hugh Jackman back for another outing as Wolverine? Or should Marvel recast the character for his eventual MCU introduction? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
